2 days ago | 5 Views
Ashutosh Sharma executed a remarkable performance in Visakhapatnam as the Delhi Capitals secured a victory against the Lucknow Super Giants at the ACA-VDCA Stadium. Having gained attention in the previous IPL season while playing for the Punjab Kings, Ashutosh transitioned to Delhi this season and made an immediate impact, leading the team to a successful start. The 26-year-old batsman scored an impressive unbeaten 66 runs off 31 balls, concluding the match with a six to clinch the win for Delhi Capitals by one wicket in a challenging chase of 210 runs.
He rose to the occasion when Delhi faced difficulties, opting to accelerate the innings in the 16th over. He continued to dominate, guiding his team to victory single-handedly despite losing partners frequently. At the end of the 15th over, he had scored 20 runs from 20 balls, but his next 46 runs came off just 11 balls, overwhelming the Lucknow Super Giants with his explosive batting.
Ashutosh entered the match as Delhi's Impact Substitute, replacing Mukesh Kumar, and quickly turned the tide against Lucknow, who had appeared poised to secure two points at that moment. His unbeaten 66 included five sixes and an equal number of fours.
When Ashutosh joined Tristan Stubbs at the crease, Delhi was struggling at five wickets down for just 65 runs. Together, they began to rebuild the innings, but Stubbs was dismissed for 34, shifting the momentum back in favour of LSG.
The partnership of 55 runs between Ashutosh and debutant Vipraj Nigam provided Delhi with a significant opportunity in their daunting chase. Nigam contributed 39 runs off 15 balls, making a vital impact on the match.

In the 18th over of the match, the tide began to turn in favour of Delhi as Ashutosh showcased his impressive ball-striking abilities. He hit Ravi Bishnoi for two sixes and a four in the final three deliveries of that over, leaving 22 runs required from the last two overs.
During the second-to-last over, Ashutosh urged Kuldeep Yadav to secure a single at all costs to bring him back to the crease. Kuldeep responded by hitting a four on the first ball, providing a moment of relief. However, Ashutosh insisted on changing the strike and sprinted towards the striker's end. Kuldeep, unable to make contact with the ball, was run out, but this allowed the 26-year-old to return to bat. He then scored 12 runs off the last three balls, which included a six and a four.
With six runs needed in the final over, Mohit Sharma faced the first delivery and narrowly avoided being stumped. Remaining composed, he took a single on the second ball, bringing Ashutosh back to the crease. Shahbaz Ahmed bowled a slightly fuller delivery, which was precisely what Ashutosh was looking for, as he launched it straight down the ground for a six, securing victory for the Delhi Capitals with three balls remaining.
