Ashish Nehra Playfully Calls Time on Abishek Porel’s Nets Session, Axar Patel Bursts Out Laughing
14 days ago | 5 Views
Gujarat Titans' head coach Ashish Nehra is well-known for his playful teasing of teammates, a trait he showcased during his playing career with his signature dry humor. Even though he doesn't engage with social media, 'Ashu paa' remains a beloved figure among his peers and juniors, dominating conversations online. Ahead of the IPL 2025 match between Gujarat Titans and Delhi Capitals at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Nehra was in top form, sharing laughs with former teammates Munaf Patel and Hemang Badani, who are now part of the DC coaching staff.
While joking around with friends is a regular occurrence for Nehra, he surprised everyone when he called out to DC wicketkeeper-batter Abishek Porel, who was busy practicing in the nets. Nehra was chatting with DC's head coach Badani and bowling coach Munaf when he spotted Porel.
Out of the blue, Nehra shouted, "Is this Abishek Porel? Come on out, last ball! Time's up. Great shot, now step out!"
It's not every day that an opposing coach tells a player to leave the nets during practice, but with Nehra around, anything can happen. Although Porel's reaction wasn't caught on camera, Nehra's playful antics had DC captain Axar Patel, Badani, and Munaf in stitches.
GT vs DC Live Update
Badani mentioned, "He'll handle both nets." Axar chimed in with a laugh, "Why not take charge of our nets as well?"
DC posted the video on their official social media just a few hours ahead of their game against GT.
At the beginning of the video, Nehra mentioned that even though he and Munaf are rivals in the IPL, they actually share the same team spirit. It's worth noting that both Nehra and Munaf played key roles in India's triumphant World Cup journey in 2011.
Currently, the Capitals are leading the pack with 10 points from six matches, while the Titans are right behind them with eight points from the same number of games.
The confidence in the Delhi squad is likely sky-high after their thrilling Super Over victory against the Rajasthan Royals, a comeback that was made possible with Mitchell Starc stepping up under pressure.
Starc's showdown with the Gujarat Titans' top order, which includes captain Shubman Gill, the reliable Sai Sudharsan, and Ashes competitor Jos Buttler, could be a game-changer.
So far, this trio has been the backbone of the batting lineup, with at least one of them scoring a half-century in every match.
The GT middle order, which hasn't been thoroughly tested, struggled when it was finally put to the test against the Lucknow Super Giants, leading to a loss. If Delhi can break through that top order early on, it could significantly shift the momentum in their favor.
