The highly anticipated match between India and Pakistan has commenced in Dubai, with the Pakistani team and management travelling to the UAE, which is the exclusive host nation for the ICC Champions Trophy.

The selection of this venue follows a widely reported exchange between the two cricket boards and their respective governments. However, PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi expressed his dissatisfaction regarding the inability to host an India-Pakistan match on Pakistani soil.

In remarks made to PTI prior to his departure with the team to Dubai, Naqvi stated, “It is disappointing—not only for the PCB but also for cricket enthusiasts globally, the ICC, its commercial partners, and the other participating nations that India is not competing in Pakistan.”

Naqvi emphasized that Pakistan has made several visits to India for significant ICC tournaments, while the last instance of India playing any form of cricket in Pakistan occurred nearly two decades ago.

“Our team has toured India on multiple occasions, including in 2011, 2012, 2016, and most recently in 2023. Naturally, we had anticipated that India would reciprocate by taking part in the Champions Trophy in Pakistan. Regrettably, that expectation has not been fulfilled,” he remarked.

‘It’s a missed opportunity…'

Naqvi expressed regret that India has not had the opportunity to play in Pakistan, unlike the six other visiting teams. He noted that no member of the current Indian squad has played in Pakistan during their professional careers.

"It is indeed a missed opportunity for Indian players to experience the warmth, affection, and hospitality that Pakistan has consistently offered to visiting teams," Naqvi remarked. "Pakistani fans would have extended their hospitality to the Indian team."

Nevertheless, Naqvi reaffirmed his dedication to ensuring a remarkable tournament for attendees in Pakistan this month.

"Despite this, our focus remains on delivering a world-class event, with cricket at the forefront. While we are committed to providing an exceptional experience, it is certainly disappointing that India is not participating in Pakistan," Naqvi concluded.

In the match, India was set a target of 242 runs to chase after a strong bowling performance in the first innings, with Kuldeep Yadav claiming three wickets and Hardik Pandya contributing two. Saud Shakeel was the top scorer for Pakistan, making 62 runs.
