Arshdeep Singh’s Surprising Self-Critique Leaves Cricket Experts in Shock
6 days ago | 5 Views
Punjab Kings fast bowler Arshdeep Singh maintained his strong performance in the 2025 IPL, making significant contributions with the new ball and securing vital breakthroughs. The left-arm pacer, who has consistently taken wickets in recent seasons, was instrumental in Punjab's eight-wicket victory over Lucknow Super Giants, claiming three wickets during the match.
Despite his successful three-wicket performance, Arshdeep was self-critical, feeling he could have performed even better. “I consider that to be quite average on a pitch that was favorable to seam bowlers. I believe I could have bowled more effectively and conceded fewer runs. During the powerplay, the ball was stopping and there was extra bounce, providing additional assistance. If we had maintained our lengths for a longer period, the score could have been different,” he remarked.
The 26-year-old made an immediate impact by dismissing Mitchell Marsh in his opening over. Reflecting on his strategy, Arshdeep noted that the aggressive approach of contemporary batsmen often works to his advantage. “As you know, modern batsmen tend to lack trust in their defense and prefer to attack the ball. Therefore, I positioned two slips and a deep cover fielder. This way, if the batsman swings and the ball goes airborne, I have a fielder in place while still maintaining an attacking stance with the slips,” he explained to IPLT20.
Arshdeep's candid evaluation of his bowling received commendation from former India cricketer Robin Uthappa, who expressed his admiration on the social media platform X. “Anyone who listened to this interview could glean so much valuable insight for young fast bowlers. I love the way this young man thinks. A true champion! Seek out the interview, listen to it, and appreciate his mindset! Absolutely remarkable!” Uthappa wrote.
Arshdeep's rise
Arshdeep's statistics throughout the years highlight his remarkable consistency. He took 18 wickets in IPL 2021, followed by 17 in 2023, and 19 in the previous year. With a total of 81 wickets in the IPL and an impressive 99 wickets in T20 internationals for India, he is solidifying his status as one of the nation's most promising fast bowlers. Additionally, Arshdeep was a member of the championship-winning teams in the T20 World Cup 2024 and the Champions Trophy held last month.
