India's captain Rohit Sharma is reported to be in good health and is expected to participate in the final group-stage match against New Zealand on Sunday, March 2, at the Dubai International Stadium. However, modifications to the playing XI are anticipated. Veteran fast bowler Mohammed Shami is likely to be rested, with left-arm medium pacer Arshdeep Singh set to take his place, according to PTI. Shami exhibited some unease during his initial spell in the recent match against Pakistan on February 23. Although he rebounded effectively after treatment for a right leg issue, the team management is inclined to avoid overexerting him, particularly with the semi-final scheduled for March 4.

The presence of five left-handed batsmen in the New Zealand lineup further supports India's decision to introduce Arshdeep, who can bring the ball back into the batsmen. Observations from Friday's practice session suggest that Arshdeep is poised to replace Shami, who has recently returned to the squad after an extended injury absence.

During training, Arshdeep was observed working diligently under the supervision of bowling coach Morne Morkel, completing 13 overs with a full run-up, while Mohammed Shami managed only 6-7 overs with a shortened run-up, indicating he was not bowling at full capacity.

The players' demeanor during Friday's training indicated that the team is likely to grant Shami a well-deserved rest ahead of the crucial semi-finals.

While KL Rahul expressed uncertainty regarding any changes to the winning combination during his media interaction, assistant coach Ryan Doeschate later suggested that adjustments to the bowling lineup might be forthcoming.

"We've had two pretty tough training sessions, so that's been the preparation," ten Doeschate remarked. "In terms of the bench strength, I think the priority is making sure that we have our best players available and fully fit for the second game [the semi-final on March 4]."

We do not wish to rest the players for an additional two days, considering that India has already had a week off. To achieve the right balance, we may opt to distribute the bowling responsibilities more evenly. However, our objective remains to secure a victory against New Zealand. Maintaining our momentum is crucial, as is the goal of finishing at the top of the group. Therefore, we must carefully consider the balance between these two priorities.

Both India and New Zealand have secured their places in the semi-finals, yet the outcome of this match remains significant, as the winner will claim the top position in the group, influencing their opponents in the semi-finals.
