India, April 28 -- Arne Slot honored Jurgen Klopp at Anfield on Sunday as Liverpool triumphed over Tottenham to secure the Premier League 2024-25 title. Following the match, during the festivities, Slot remarked, “I send my appreciation to Jurgen”, and then initiated a chant, with the crowd joining in. The chant was in honor of Klopp, set to the melody of Opus 1984 song “Live Is Life”.

At the same time, during the post-match press briefing, Slot provided insight into his gesture towards Klopp. Klopp had selected Slot as his successor upon leaving Liverpool last season.

“Because of what he did before I even arrived here. I think that is something not one manager has ever done before. So that is what definitely helped me. But beyond that, he aided me even more through the team and culture he left behind,” he stated.

“The talent of the players was evident to all, but the ethos of hard work — not just from the players but also from the staff members — has been remarkable, and that is one of the reasons why we could achieve what we have accomplished this season. For obvious reasons, I think it was a nice moment to thank him as well,” he continued.

Slot also disclosed what John W Henry, the principal owner, said to him after the final whistle.

“Probably congratulations! I don’t recall precisely what he said, but it was special for them to be part of this moment. Their trust in me to be in this position may now lead everyone to say, ‘That makes complete sense. ’ But at the moment they hired me, perhaps not everyone shared the same confidence that they do now,” he explained.

“So, that indicates what a unique club this is, as they don’t always opt for what may be the simplest or most obvious choice — they choose what they believe is best for the club. It must be a special moment for them as well, the second time in five years that they have won the league. And now to achieve this in front of our supporters is special for everyone, including them,” he added.
