Arne Slot offered a special acknowledgment to Jurgen Klopp at Anfield on Sunday as Liverpool triumphed over Tottenham to secure the Premier League 2024-25 title. During the festivities following the match, Slot remarked, “I send my appreciation to Jurgen,” and then began to chant, with the crowd soon joining in. The chant was in honor of Klopp, set to the melody of Opus 1984 song “Live Is Life. ”

In addition, during the post-match press conference, Slot clarified his gesture towards Klopp. Klopp had selected Slot as his successor upon departing Liverpool last season.

“Because of what he accomplished before I even came here. I believe that is something no other manager has ever done before. So that is what certainly supported me. But besides that, he aided me even more with the squad he left behind and the culture he established in that team,” he stated. “The talent the players possess was clear to everyone, but the culture of diligence – not just from the players, but also from the staff members – has been remarkable, and that is one of the factors why we were able to attain what we have achieved this season. For evident reasons, I believe it was a pleasant moment to express my gratitude to him as well,” he added.

Slot also shared what John W Henry, the principal owner, told him after the match concluded.

“Probably congratulations! I don’t recall exactly what he said, but it was significant for them to be part of this moment. For them to have faith in me to hold this position, perhaps now everyone says, ‘That makes perfect sense. ’ But at the time they signed me, maybe not everyone was as convinced as they are now,” he remarked.

“So, that indicates what an exceptional club this is, as they don’t always opt for the perhaps most straightforward or apparent choice – they select what they believe is best for the club. It must be a remarkable moment for them as well, winning the league for the second time in five years. And now to achieve this in front of our fans is special for everyone, including them,” he expressed.
