Armand Duplantis is widely acknowledged as the greatest pole vaulter in history. On Friday, he reaffirmed this reputation at the All-Star Perche meet held in Clermont-Ferrand, France, where he set a new world pole vault record for the 11th time in his career, achieving a height of 6.27 meters. This surpassed his previous record of 6.26 meters, which he established at the Silesia Diamond League in August 2024.

Only Sergey Bubka, from the former Soviet Union, has surpassed Duplantis in terms of the number of world pole vault records broken, with a total of 13.

Duplantis first set the world record in 2020 by clearing 6.17 meters in Poland, breaking the previous record of 6.14 meters held by Renaud Lavillenie since 2014. Just a week later, he improved his own record by clearing 6.18 meters. In 2022, he broke the world record three times, followed by two more records in 2023, and four additional records in 2024.

In a statement to the media, Duplantis expressed, “I just felt really good. What can I say, I came here to do it. I put everything in place to do it. The run-up worked really well. I just did it.”

He also mentioned, “When I made this song a couple of months ago, I thought this would be a perfect song to jump to here. That's why I rushed it out.”

Duplantis is a two-time Olympic champion, having won gold in both 2020 and 2024, as well as a two-time World outdoor champion (2022 and 2023) and indoor champion, in addition to being the current European champion. At the age of 15, he secured titles at the 2015 World Youth Championships and finished third the following year at the World U20 Championships.

In 2017, he claimed the European U20 title, followed by the World U20 title the next year. He is among the select few athletes to have won World Championship titles at youth, junior, and senior levels.

Throughout his illustrious career, Duplantis has garnered numerous awards and accolades, including the 2024 BBC Sports Personality World Sport Star of the Year.
