Anvay Dravid, the younger son of former Indian captain and T20 World Cup-winning head coach Rahul Dravid, distinguished himself on Friday by achieving his first century for Karnataka in the Vijay Merchant Trophy. Batting at the fourth position, the wicketkeeper exhibited remarkable technique and determination, finishing his innings unbeaten on 100 runs from 153 deliveries.
His performance, which featured 10 fours and two sixes, was instrumental in Karnataka establishing a first-innings lead over Jharkhand Under-16. The match concluded in a draw, with Karnataka securing three points in response to Jharkhand's first-innings score of 387.
Anvay’s contribution was vital in Karnataka's pursuit, following a strong opening partnership between Arya Gowda and captain Dhruv Krishnan, both of whom also reached the century mark.
This century represents a significant achievement in Anvay’s emerging cricket career. At just 16 years old, he accomplished this feat in only his third innings of the Vijay Merchant Trophy, having previously recorded a half-century and 75 runs in his earlier matches.
Karnataka finished with a total of 441 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in 123.3 overs, with the match ultimately ending in a draw.
Anvay, who is also an accomplished wicketkeeper, has been steadily advancing through the age-group ranks. Last year, he was appointed captain of Karnataka's Under-14 team, demonstrating his leadership potential early in his career.
Samit making waves in age cricket
Samit, Anvay's elder brother, has been making significant strides in age-group cricket for Karnataka. In September, he was selected for the India Under-19 team to compete in a series against Australia; however, he had to withdraw from the series due to a knee injury.
Earlier this year, Samit achieved notable success in the Cooch Behar Trophy, amassing 362 runs and taking 16 wickets, which played a crucial role in Karnataka's championship victory. Additionally, he has represented the Mysuru Warriors in the Maharaja Trophy, further solidifying his position in the future of Karnataka cricket. Although age restrictions will prevent him from participating in the 2026 Under-19 World Cup, his all-round capabilities continue to garner attention.
Both Anvay and Samit are rising stars in Karnataka’s youth cricket scene, following the illustrious path set by their father, Rahul Dravid.
