Anushka Sharma to Arrive in Dubai for Virat Kohli’s Milestone Champions Trophy Clash vs New Zealand
12 days ago | 5 Views
Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma, spouse of Virat Kohli, is scheduled to arrive in Dubai on Sunday to witness her husband's significant match against New Zealand in the 2025 Champions Trophy. Additionally, Kohli's brother, Vikas, will also be present for India's final group match in the tournament.
On this occasion, Kohli will be participating in his 300th One Day International (ODI) match, making him the seventh Indian cricketer to achieve this milestone, alongside legends such as Sachin Tendulkar and MS Dhoni. He will be the 23rd player in international cricket to reach this landmark, and the first since the renowned West Indies player Chris Gayle accomplished it in 2019.
In anticipation of this important game, sources affiliated with the news agency ANI have confirmed that Anushka will be attending the concluding group-stage match of the 2025 Champions Trophy. "Anushka Sharma and Vikas Kohli (Virat Kohli's elder brother) will arrive in Dubai tomorrow for Virat Kohli's 300th ODI match," the sources stated.
Earlier this year, following a Test series defeat in Australia, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) implemented a stringent policy restricting the duration players can spend with their families while on tour. Under this policy, immediate family members—partners and children—are allowed to accompany players for two weeks if the tour exceeds 45 days. Conversely, for shorter tours, this duration is limited to seven days.
For the Champions Trophy, the BCCI initially prohibited families from joining players in Dubai due to the tournament's brief three-week duration. However, a report from last month indicated that the BCCI has since allowed all players' families to travel to Dubai to attend a single match. Notably, Ritika Sajdeh, the wife of India captain Rohit Sharma, was seen in Dubai during the Champions Trophy match involving India.
The other significance of India vs New Zealand
Both teams have successfully advanced to the semifinal after securing victories in their initial two Group A matches in the ICC tournament; however, the upcoming match between India and New Zealand holds significance beyond mere formality. This encounter represents the first substantial challenge for both teams as they prepare for the knockout phase, and the outcome will influence the semifinal matchups.
Currently, New Zealand occupies the top position in the standings, owing to a more favourable net run rate than India. A victory for the Men in Blue could elevate them to the leading position, resulting in a semifinal clash against the second-placed team from Group B, Australia, on Tuesday in Dubai. Conversely, a defeat could lead them to face South Africa in the semifinal.
