Former Indian captain Anil Kumble has issued a firm statement condemning the unauthorized use of his name and likeness on social media during the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy. This situation has led to controversy due to the dissemination of false quotes attributed to him. These fabricated statements, which emerged prior to and during the third Test of the series, prompted Kumble to address the issue publicly.

The misleading quotes criticized the performance of Virat Kohli and questioned Rohit Sharma's leadership, inciting unwarranted outrage on social media and contributing to the heightened tension surrounding the crucial series between India and Australia. Kumble emphasized that he disassociates himself from these quotes and the accounts responsible for spreading this misinformation.

“It has come to my attention that certain social media accounts are misusing my image and attributing false quotes to me. I want to clearly state that I have no connection to these accounts or their content. The statements being circulated do not represent my views and are not reflective of my opinions,” Kumble stated on X.

"I encourage everyone to exercise caution and not accept everything they encounter on social media as truth. It is essential to verify the authenticity of any information before sharing it. My official social media platforms are the sole trustworthy sources for my views and statements."

Kumble's declaration coincided with the third Test match between India and Australia, where India found itself in a challenging position, concluding Day 3 at a precarious 51/4 in response to Australia's total of 445 runs.

Gavaskar spoke against sa imilar issue

The prevalence of misinformation within the cricketing community has been on the rise, with notable personalities such as Sunil Gavaskar falling victim to this troubling trend. Recently, Gavaskar encountered a similar predicament when a website disseminated a fraudulent column attributed to him.

In response, Gavaskar promptly denounced the article as a fabrication and indicated his intention to pursue legal measures against the website. This action aligns with Anil Kumble's appeal for fans to scrutinize the information they encounter on social media, especially during major events like the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
