Anand's Take on Gukesh's Triumph: A Blend of Surprise and Pride

Chess legend Viswanathan Anand recounted his experience filming an advertisement featuring the newly crowned World Champion D Gukesh, which gained significant attention online. The two chess grandmasters, representing different generations, appeared together in this promotional piece.
In a recent discussion, Anand remarked on Gukesh's performance, noting that his delivery of the punchline to the actor portraying his manager was rather atypical for him.
"The moment when he addresses his manager is not typical of Gukesh. He likely faced some challenges with it," Anand stated in a video.
In December of the previous year, 18-year-old Gukesh made history by becoming the youngest world champion, triumphing over China's Ding Liren. He is only the second Indian, following the legendary Viswanathan Anand, to reach this remarkable milestone.
During a prestigious National Sports Awards ceremony, he was honoured with the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna by President Droupadi Murmu.
On Thursday, Gukesh surpassed his fellow countryman Arjun Erigaisi to secure the position of the highest-ranked Indian chess player, now placed fourth in the latest FIDE rankings.
This achievement came after he secured his second victory at the Tata Steel Tournament in Wijk Aan Zee, Netherlands, defeating Germany's Vincent Keymer. Gukesh has accumulated 2784 rating points, while Erigaisi, who had held the top rank among Indian players for an extended period, has fallen to fifth with 2779.5 rating points.
In the eighth round of the Tata Steel Masters, Grandmaster R Praggnanadhaa faced off against World Champion Gukesh, resulting in a solid draw.
Playing the white pieces in a Berlin defence, Praggnanadhaa appeared to have a slightly advantageous position, but Gukesh remained vigilant in his defence. Early in the middle game, Gukesh sacrificed a pawn to initiate his counterplay, and despite Praggnanadhaa's attempts to capitalize on this, the game consistently leaned towards a draw.
As the queens were exchanged, the players transitioned into a rook and minor piece endgame, where Gukesh skillfully identified the best resources and even created an outside passed pawn. With Praggnanadhaa's rook solely tasked with countering the pawn, the outcome of the game was never in question. The game concluded in a draw after 33 moves.
