In what could have been alarming news for any team, the announcement of Ruturaj Gaikwad's absence for the remainder of the IPL 2025 season has been met with a different sentiment by CSK supporters. This reaction is not due to any diminished regard for Gaikwad, who is recognized as one of the premier batters in the IPL, but rather because his absence paves the way for fan-favorite MS Dhoni to return as captain.

Prior to their upcoming match against KKR, CSK head coach Stephen Fleming revealed that Gaikwad would be sidelined for the rest of IPL 2025 due to a fracture in his left elbow, with Dhoni stepping in as captain for the remaining matches.

He expressed his sorrow over Gaikwad’s injury, which will prevent him from participating in the remaining games. However, he quickly shifted to his admiration for Dhoni, a sentiment for which he has faced some criticism recently.

“It’s truly unfortunate that Ruturaj, the captain of CSK, has been ruled out of the IPL. Nevertheless, all fans will undoubtedly be thrilled to see MS Dhoni lead CSK once more. He can conjure his magic and guide CSK to qualification from this point. It would be a remarkable story. I am extremely excited and hopeful that he can work his magic on the CSK team,” he stated.

Dhoni last captained CSK in the IPL 2023 final, where they triumphed over GT by five wickets. Currently, CSK is in urgent need of motivation, sitting in ninth place on the points table with four losses and one victory.

Widely regarded as one of the greatest captains in IPL and cricket history, Dhoni has led CSK to the finals ten times, securing five championships (2010, 2011, 2018, 2021, and 2023), a record he shares with Rohit Sharma. Additionally, he guided CSK to two Champions League T20 titles in 2010 and 2014.
