Ajit Agarkar, the chief selector for the Indian men's cricket team, is gearing up to sit down with captain Rohit Sharma and head coach Gautam Gambhir, along with some BCCI officials, to go over the team's rough outing in Australia. India, who had previously shocked the Aussies with back-to-back series wins on their turf, ended up losing 1-3 this time, handing over the Border-Gavaskar Trophy for the first time in eight years.

As reported by the Hindustan Times, Agarkar, who was part of the team in Australia, is currently in Vadodara for the knockout stages of the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy, which kicks off with the round of 16 on Thursday. The former fast bowler will catch up with the other selection committee members to fill them in on the situation. After that, he’ll have a chat with Gambhir and Rohit to discuss how the series went. Plus, the BCCI is set to hold a Special General Meeting in Mumbai on Sunday, where Devajit Saikia will take over as the new BCCI secretary.

Ashwin's retirement and the need to tackle Rohit and Kohli's performance issues

The report mentioned that there will be several informal and formal meetings between selectors and administrators soon, where they'll tackle various issues, including India's disappointing performance in the Test series.

After their victory against Bangladesh in September, India went on to lose six out of their next eight Tests, suffering a shocking 0-3 defeat at home against New Zealand. The only bright spot during this tough stretch was the win in Perth under Jasprit Bumrah's captaincy.

The selectors are also likely to discuss the ongoing media frenzy regarding Rohit and Virat Kohli's current form and their future in Test cricket.

"The tour of Australia, which came right after the 0-3 loss to New Zealand at home, was supposed to be a turning point for many senior players. The 3-1 defeat there dashed India's hopes for the WTC final, marking a significant setback. R Ashwin's unexpected retirement mid-tour, whispers of team discontent, Rohit's drop in form that led to him missing the final Test in Sydney, and Virat Kohli's ongoing struggles have left Indian cricket with a lot of tough questions. All these issues are expected to be discussed in the upcoming meetings between selectors and administrators," the report stated.
