Mumbai captain Ajinkya Rahane will face India captain Rohit Sharma in an intriguing matchup during the Ranji Trophy match against Jammu and Kashmir at the BKC ground in Mumbai. This significant round-six encounter also signifies Rohit Sharma's return to domestic cricket after nearly ten years, with his last appearance in a domestic match dating back to 2016. The India captain, who has struggled with form recently, will join several prominent cricketers participating in this round of the Ranji Trophy, following the BCCI's mandate for all national team players to be available for domestic competitions.

In addition to Rohit, Mumbai's squad has been strengthened by the inclusion of India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal. Ahead of this pivotal match that could influence the outcome of Group A, Rahane expressed his gratitude for having both Rohit and Jaiswal back in the team.

"Rohit is Rohit; we all recognize that. You are also aware of Rohit's character. I am truly pleased to have both of them in the Mumbai dressing room," Rahane stated to the media during a training session on Wednesday.

"Rohit has always maintained a relaxed demeanour. Even at the international level, his character remains consistent. His attitude is quite calm, and he possesses a deep understanding of his game, so there is no need for anyone to instruct him on what to do.

"Once he settles in, I am confident he will perform well. He has remained unchanged, which is a commendable trait," Rahane added.

The 37-year-old Rohit has faced challenges in recent months, with Test defeats against New Zealand (at home) and Australia (away) weighing heavily on his mind.

Rahane acknowledged that every player experiences fluctuations in form but noted that Rohit has been "truly confident."

"What matters is that he is eager and determined to succeed. I am certain that once he finds his rhythm, he will score big," the veteran, who has shared the Indian dressing room with Rohit, remarked.

"He batted exceptionally well yesterday during a couple of sessions, so this is simply part of a player's career. I have great confidence in Rohit."

Rahane indicated that the match commencing on Thursday might be the sole game Rohit participates in this season. Rohit is set to lead India in a three-match ODI series against England, beginning on February 6, followed by the Champions Trophy

"I believe he will only be involved in this match; his participation in the subsequent game remains uncertain. His contributions over the next four days will be crucial," Rahane remarked.
