Former India batter Ajay Jadeja did not hold back as he expressed his dissatisfaction with Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill labeling Vaibhav Suryavanshi's 101-run performance as his ‘lucky day’. Competing for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2025, the 14-year-old achieved the milestone of being the youngest-ever centurion in the history of the T20 tournament by scoring a century off 35 balls at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.

Suryavanshi's innings featured eight fours and 11 sixes, contributing to Rajasthan Royals' victory in the match by eight wickets. The home team successfully chased down 210 runs with 25 balls remaining, disrupting the momentum of Gujarat Titans.

Following Gujarat Titans' defeat, captain Shubman Gill was prompted to share his thoughts on witnessing Suryavanshi's performance, and at that moment, the India batter remarked that the left-hander had a fortunate day and took full advantage of his opportunities.

“It was his (lucky) day. His hitting was just tremendous, and he made full use of his day,” commented Shubman Gill while addressing the host broadcaster.

Ajay Jadeja was dissatisfied with Gill's trivialization of the performance. The former India batter appeared to have more to contribute but was interrupted due to the post-match presentation.

“But a 14-year-old to believe in himself, the amount that he believes in himself, and to take it that far, even if it’s, you know, one day like some player on television just said, oh, it was just his lucky day,” stated Jadeja while speaking to JioStar.

The left-handed batsman displayed no regard for experienced Indian bowlers such as Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Siraj, and Prasidh Krishna as he targeted them right from ball number one.

During the fourth over bowled by Ishant Sharma, Suryavanshi struck 28 runs, while he hit 30 runs in another over bowled by Karim Janat.

Suryavanshi, in partnership with Yashasvi Jaiswal, added 166 runs for the opening wicket. He ultimately returned to the pavilion after scoring 101 runs off 38 balls and was dismissed by Prasidh Krishna.

“All of us who played cricket, envisioned cricket in a particular way, whether in our living rooms or when playing with our friends. This is the stuff you dream of. At ages 14 and 15, we all must have imagined different scenarios. But this is what you genuinely fantasize about. This individual has gone out there and experienced that dream. There’s strength. He’ll be scrutinized numerous times,” said Ajay Jadeja.

"There are moments after seven overs when you have a strategic timeout. Much credit goes to Rahul Dravid and Vikram Rathour and the team for permitting him to continue flowing and thriving. And I believe it’s the mindset that amazes me more than anything,” he continued.
