After BCCI Axe, Ishan Kishan Finds Redemption by Returning to His Roots
3 days ago | 5 Views
Ishan Kishan demonstrated his determination on Sunday, silencing his critics with an outstanding unbeaten century for Sunrisers Hyderabad. In their season opener against Rajasthan Royals, Kishan delivered an impressive performance, scoring 106 runs off just 47 balls at a remarkable strike rate of 225.53, which included 11 fours and six sixes.
This innings marked the 12th fastest century in IPL history, achieved in just 45 balls, and it also stands as SRH’s third-fastest century to date.
Prior to IPL 2025, Kishan faced a decline in his prospects as a potential opener for India. During IPL 2024, he managed only 320 runs across 14 matches, making it a forgettable season for the wicketkeeper-batter. Additionally, around this time last year, he was removed from the central contract list due to his lack of participation in the Ranji Trophy.
Reflecting on that challenging period, Kishan remarked on Sunday, “I had ample time to practice and dedicated myself to improving my batting. My preparation was thorough.”
In contrast to other Mumbai Indians players who train at the franchise’s facility in Ghansoli, Kishan invested his own resources to establish a cricket academy in Patna. This initiative proved beneficial, as it provided him with a venue to enhance his training.
Ishan Kishan's gruelling training sessions in Patna
A source has confirmed that he engaged in two training sessions each day. The morning session, which lasted between 2 to 3 hours, was dedicated to honing his cricket skills at his academy and was characterized by its intensity. In the evening, he would either focus on gym workouts or speed training for an additional 1 to 2 hours.
In addition to physical training, he devoted significant time to enhancing his mental game by reviewing his own performance videos.
He opted to train exclusively at his academy in Patna, avoiding travel to other locations. This decision enabled him to maintain focus and consistently apply himself in a familiar environment.
In a match where they were chasing 287 runs, RR fell short, finishing at 242/6 after 20 overs, with Harshal Patel and Simarjeet Singh each taking two wickets for SRH. Kishan batted at the No. 3 position and also contributed as a fielder, while Heinrich Klaasen took on the role of wicketkeeper.
Kishan's most recent appearance for India was on November 28, 2023, during a T20I against Australia. His last outings in ODI and Test formats occurred on October 11, 2023, and July 20, 2023, respectively.
In December 2022, Kishan achieved a remarkable feat by scoring 210 runs off 131 balls in an ODI against Bangladesh, making him the youngest player to score a double century in ODIs and the first to convert his maiden ODI century into a double hundred. This inning also set the record for the fastest double-century in ODI cricket history.
