Afghanistan Captain Hashmatullah Shahidi's Confident Response Ahead of Australia Clash

Afghanistan's captain Hashmatullah Shahidi had a clever comeback when asked how his team plans to handle Glenn Maxwell before their Champions Trophy match against Australia. Maxwell had a stunning performance during the 2023 ODI World Cup, scoring 201 runs and turning the game around for Australia when they were struggling at 91 for 7.

Shahidi emphasized that Afghanistan has moved on from that tough loss and is gearing up to face Australia as a whole, rather than focusing on just one player.

After Afghanistan's solid win over England, Shahidi was asked about the threat Maxwell poses and how they plan to deal with him this time around.

With a grin, the Afghan captain brushed off the idea of zeroing in on a single player, stating that their attention is on the entire Australian team.

"You really think we’re just here to play against Maxwell? Is that how it works?" Shahidi joked. "We’ve got strategies for the whole Australian lineup. Sure, he had an amazing game in the 2023 World Cup, but that’s in the past. We even beat them in the T20 World Cup after that. Our focus is on the entire team, not just one guy. We’re getting ready for Australia, not just Maxwell," Shahidi said, as reported by India Today.

Keeping plans under wraps

Shahidi made it clear that Afghanistan won’t be sharing any tactical plans before the match. When asked about specific strategies, he was pretty firm about keeping those details under wraps.

"Australia is a strong team, definitely one of the best out there. Every team looks at their opponents and comes up with strategies based on what they do well and where they might struggle. We have our own game plan, but this isn’t the time or place to talk about it. We’ll keep it within the team and put it into action on the field," he said.

Afghanistan is set to face Australia on February 28, looking to build on their recent win against England. This is another crucial match for Afghanistan, and a victory would secure their place in the semi-finals.
