Abhishek Sharma played a pivotal role in the high-scoring transformation of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) during the 2024 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), having showcased remarkable form while representing India prior to the current season. However, his start to the season has been disappointing, with SRH languishing at the bottom of the table after suffering three losses in their first four matches. This situation has prompted former India opener Aakash Chopra to speculate whether Abhishek is experiencing a dip in form.

Chopra criticized the performances of all SRH batsmen this season. "I find it difficult to comprehend Nitish Kumar Reddy's shot selection. Ishan Kishan had a good start in the first match but then followed it up with three low scores. Abhishek Sharma does not appear to be the same player. He is attempting shots, but at what point do we conclude that it’s not just a lack of runs but a lack of form?" Chopra remarked on his YouTube channel.

"You started off well, then got run out, followed by a lack of runs, and got out again. Suddenly, after four innings, you find yourself without any runs. This raises questions about what is going wrong."

SRH commenced the season in their usual explosive manner, nearly surpassing their own record for the highest IPL score by posting 286/6 in their opening match against Rajasthan Royals, ultimately winning by 44 runs. However, they lost their second match despite setting a target of 191 for LSG. Subsequently, SRH's batting lineup has faltered in their attempts to play aggressively, being bowled out for 163 against Delhi Capitals and 120 against KKR. This has sparked a broader conversation about whether SRH should reconsider their aggressive batting strategy.

"Big names, but minimal performance. This seems to be the case when we examine their batting order. They are unlikely to alter their playing style. They consistently play this way. Scoring 190 once, then 163, and if your performance is declining and you are losing wickets frequently during the powerplay, it is essential to question your direction," Chopra stated.
