India's batsman Abhishek Sharma expressed his excitement upon seeing a congratulatory message from his mentor Yuvraj Singh on social media, following his record-setting performance in the fifth and final T20I match against England. Notably, Abhishek made a playful remark, noting that for the first time, he did not receive a reprimand from the legendary Indian cricketer.

The day was historic for Abhishek at Wankhede Stadium, where he delivered a remarkable innings of 135 runs off just 54 balls, marking the second-fastest T20I century for India. This achievement also established the highest individual score for India in men's T20Is, surpassing Shubman Gill's previous record of 126 against New Zealand in 2023, and it stands as the second-highest score against England in this format, following Aaron Finch's 156 in 2013. During his innings, Abhishek hit 13 sixes and seven fours, and he later contributed with the ball, taking two wickets for just three runs in his only over, leading India to a commanding 150-run victory.

In the aftermath of his performance, Yuvraj took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to commend the young player, stating: “Well played @IamAbhiSharma4! That's where I want to see you! Proud of you.”

In a media interaction following the match, Abhishek shared his thoughts on Yuvraj Singh's post, expressing his delight at not encountering the usual 'flying chappal' comment in the tweet.

"I believe this is the first occasion where Yuvraj has tweeted something without the phrase 'I will send a chappal.' Finally, he is proud of me, which makes me very happy," Abhishek remarked.

Abhishek reveals how Yuvraj backed him

Abhishek also elaborated on his relationship with Yuvraj, highlighting how the former all-rounder supported him during the initial stages of his career.

"Three years ago, when I began working with him, he consistently reminded me that doubts are a natural part of being a player. However, he always reassured me, saying, 'You will be there, and you will perform. You will win matches for India,'" Abhishek noted.

Having received the Player of the Match award for his outstanding performance in Mumbai, Abhishek revealed that Yuvraj's vision for him was always focused on long-term success.

During our training camp amidst the COVID pandemic, he consistently advised me, "Do not focus on immediate results. I am preparing you for the long term." Now that everything is aligning, I find myself truly pleased, he remarked.
