For the second time in just nine days, Rishabh Pant's six-year-old T20 record has been shattered. This time, it was Sunrisers Hyderabad's opener Abhishek Sharma who stole the spotlight, scoring a remarkable 100 off just 28 balls during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match against Meghalaya.

While chasing a target of 143 in Rajkot, the 24-year-old from Punjab unleashed an explosive innings, racking up 106 runs in only 29 balls, boasting an insane strike rate of 365.52 and hitting 11 sixes. With this performance, he tied Urvil Patel's record for the fastest T20 century by an Indian, which was set just last week when Patel scored a 28-ball hundred against Tripura. Interestingly, Patel had gone unsold at the IPL 2025 mega auction for his base price of INR 30 lakh. The overall record for the fastest T20 hundred still belongs to Estonia's Sahil Chauhan, who achieved a 27-ball century against Cyprus earlier this year.

Abhishek's stellar 106 not out powered Punjab to chase down the target in just 9.3 overs.

With this victory, Punjab holds onto the fourth position in Group A, racking up 20 points from seven matches, including five wins. Meanwhile, Meghalaya is still struggling at the bottom of the table, having not won any of their seven games.

A major shift for Abhishek.

The knock in Meghalaya was a game-changer for the SRH batter, who had been struggling in international cricket. After his stunning century against Zimbabwe in his second T20I match back in July, Abhishek has only put up 156 runs in the following nine innings, with just one half-century to his name.

Earlier this year, Abhishek shot to fame with a standout performance in IPL 2024, where he formed a lethal opening partnership with Travis Head. He racked up 484 runs throughout the season at an incredible strike rate of 204.21, which included the fastest fifty ever by an SRH player—a blistering 16-ball effort against the Mumbai Indians.
