AB de Villiers Criticizes RCB’s Grueling IPL 2025 Schedule, Calls It Unprecedented

Rajat Patidar's Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) has kicked off the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season with a bang. The team has made a strong start in the 18th season of this lucrative league by securing victories in two away games against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Former RCB player AB de Villiers has commented on the "crazy" schedule that this highly popular franchise is facing.

RCB has shown impressive form in their first two matches, defeating their rivals KKR and CSK on their home grounds. Next up, the team will head back to Bengaluru for their first home game against the Gujarat Titans. However, right after that, RCB will hit the road again to face the five-time champions, the Mumbai Indians.

Currently, RCB sits at the top of the points table after winning both of their opening matches. They are set to play against Gujarat on Wednesday at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

“The beginning of a season is always tough, but they nailed it this time. Just look at that schedule: away, away, then home, and back on the road again. It’s wild! I’ve never seen anything like it, and while it’s challenging, it can also be a strength,” de Villiers shared on his podcast.

“It helps keep the team united, especially when you gain some momentum. You often travel together, and if you have several home games in a row, you might lose touch with the players. They start doing their own thing, going out to eat, and that can break the connection within the squad,” he added.

RCB's path is becoming smoother

AB de Villiers thinks that RCB's path to victory has become smoother after taking down formidable teams like KKR and CSK.

They triumphed over the defending champions KKR by seven wickets and dominated five-time champions CSK by 50 runs at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

"Beating the defending champions KKR away from home at the start of the season, along with CSK, who have an amazing record at Chepauk, is a big deal. From here, RCB's journey looks a lot easier when we check the points table," he mentioned.

"RCB is currently leading, being the only team with two wins and an impressive net run rate," he added.
