Mumbai: Manas Dhamne, one of the most promising young talents in Indian tennis, secured his inaugural professional title at an ITF M15 tournament in Monastir, triumphing as a qualifier at the age of 17.

In the final held on Sunday, Dhamne staged a comeback after losing the first set, ultimately defeating Italian Lorenzo Carboni with scores of 2-6, 6-0, 6-2.

Training at the esteemed Piatti Tennis Center in Italy, which has nurtured players like current world No. 1 Jannik Sinner, Dhamne has previously claimed several junior ITF titles, including the prestigious U-12 Eddie Herr Championship; however, this marks his first title at the senior level.

This week has proven fruitful for several young tennis aspirants from India. Dhamne’s first ITF title complements the achievement of 15-year-old Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi, who reached the semi-finals of the WTA L&T Mumbai Open in her debut at that level as a wildcard qualifier.

Participating in his fourth tournament of the year, Dhamne, who is currently ranked 1013 in the ATP rankings, overcame numerous higher-ranked competitors after successfully navigating through three qualifying rounds. He defeated Spain’s Alejo Sanchez Quilez (ranked 576), Austrian Maximilian Neuchrist (589), and Spaniard Alberto Barroso Campos (539) in the main draw before facing Carboni, a fellow qualifier and lucky loser, whom he had previously defeated in the final qualifying round.

In total, Dhamne competed in eight matches over eight days. This is a positive indication, as the primary focus of his development at this stage is to enhance his fitness and physicality in preparation for the demanding men’s tour. Dhamne has also participated in a greater number of tournaments on the ITF circuit over the past few seasons.
