Leading up to the launch of Kiccha Sudeep’s Max last year, director Vijay Kartikeyaa and producer Kalaippuli S Thanu weren’t exactly winning over the fans of the Kannada superstar. With minimal updates and pretty dull promotional material, there wasn’t a lot to get fans excited. However, once the film hit theaters, they proved all the naysayers wrong right from the first screening. Audiences were thrilled with how effectively Vijay showcased Sudeep’s talent and created a universe ripe for further exploration.

Max2 is said to be a prequel, according to netizens

Vijay's got this leading guy set up as a cop who's just getting back on the job after a recent suspension, which opens up a ton of possibilities for a backstory. As constable Ravanan (Ilavarasu) says, “Every suspension has a story, and each story involves taking down a demon.” So, why do the villains get all jittery when they hear the name Max? That question hooked fans right from the release of the film Max, and now that there are whispers about Vijay crafting a script for another movie in the same universe, fans are buzzing about whether they’d prefer a prequel or a sequel.

Right now, fans online are really pushing for a prequel. A lot of people are saying, “We need to know more about Arjun Mahakshay’s backstory.” With the character already set, folks think Vijay has plenty of opportunities to dive deeper into character development and the plot. Plus, since Max's story took place over just one night, there wasn’t really a need for a love interest, which could definitely be added in the next film. It seems likely that Vijay will come back to direct Sudeep in another Max installment, but it’s still unclear if it’ll be under the same production company. There were some whispers about a disagreement between Sudeep and Kalaippuli S Thanu after the film’s release got pushed back.

Sudeep is on his way to the Billa Ranga Baashaa set right after finishing up with his Celebrity Cricket League duties, where his team, the Karnataka Bulldozers, is in the semi-finals. He mentioned that he’s also given the go-ahead for another project and aims to have at least two films wrapped up in the next year and a half.
