Krishna Ajai Rao, widely recognized for his roles in romantic dramas such as Krishnan Love Story and Krishnan Marriage Story, has chosen to support a film that showcases him in a completely different role. This courtroom drama marks his second production after Krishna Leela, stemming from his aspiration to engage in projects that would positively influence his career trajectory. Titled Yuddhakaanda Chapter 2, in reference to the existing Ravichandran courtroom drama Yuddhakaanda, this film, directed by Pavan Bhat, presents a narrative that resonates with both Ajai Rao the actor and Ajai Rao the father.

Ajai Rao declares Yuddhakaanda an organic hit

Premiering in theaters on April 18 during a period of declining attendance for Kannada films, Yuddhakaanda experienced a gradual yet consistent increase in box office performance. Although official statistics are not accessible, a promising trend has emerged as the film, which initially had only 1-2 screenings per day at multiplexes, began to expand its showings daily, leading Ajai to eventually announce Yuddhakaanda Chapter 2 as an 'organic hit'.

The film is being recognized as Ajai's return to form and has received favorable reviews from viewers who chose to support it, despite it not conforming to typical commercial film standards. While Ajai expresses his happiness regarding the film's reception and appreciates the audience for its warm opening, he believes that Yuddhakaanda could have achieved significantly greater success at the box office.

After a 25-year wait for an organic success like Yuddhakaanda, I have observed that box office statistics from Karnataka indicate that the Telugu courtroom drama Court has outperformed Yuddhakaanda thus far. Similarly, the Malayalam film Manjummel Boys has also seen greater success. This raises the question: why are audiences not attending our films in comparable numbers? This is a critical inquiry we must address,” stated Ajai during the film's success meeting on April 22.

The actor-filmmaker emphasized that the core issue lies in the audience's confidence in the industry, which has currently diminished. “We produce one exceptional film, instilling hope in the audience for more such offerings. However, we often fail to meet those expectations,” Ajai remarked, noting that he is not focused on making millions in a single day. Instead, he prefers to see his film achieve a 100-day run at the box office, characterized by gradual and sustainable growth.
