Yash’s Toxic muhurtha: Yella okay, but where is…?

When the first images from the muhurtha of Rocking Star Yash’s Toxic began landing on social media this morning, there was one question that was almost heard like a chorus – “Where is Geetu?” As it turns out, the images doing the rounds on social media did not include the film’s director Geetu Mohandas, while Yash’s personal stylist Saniya Sardhariya was there.

Fans and netizens wasted no time wondering why she is never seen in public with Yash and team. In the past, including during the recent Dharmasthala trip, Geetu was not with them, prompting fans to comment that the Rocking Star was handling all the pre-production himself. The filmmaker’s supposed atheist beliefs and pro-LGBTQIA+ stance were also part of the discussions and attributed as reason for her absence in Dharmasthala and at the muhurtha.

The missing 'Toxic' piece was there all along

As it turns out, Geetu was at the muhurtha after all, so the discussions then veered towards a fear that fans have been voicing from the time she was rumoured to be collaborating with the Rocking Star. The filmmaker’s unconventional approach to filmmaking – that she does not believe in working with a bound script and is the queen of improvisation – did not sit well with Yash fans, who are hopeful of a kickass film that breaks the records set by KGF: Chapter 2.

However, although Yash has supposedly put together a crew that includes a few international technicians, he has, in the past, maintained that his next film would not be big on scale, but would be high on content. A film that would appeal to global audiences is on the anvil, according to the actor. Fans who are not enamoured by Yash’s collaboration with Geetu, have also been ageist in conversations about the film.

There were severe ageist comments even when Kareena Kapoor Khan was rumoured to be a part of the cast. She is said to have been replaced by Nayanthara, who is, reportedly, playing Yash’s sister in the film. Toxic, a drug mafia tale set between the 50s and 70s, is said to be a gangster story told from a female perspective, that will have shades of Peaky Blinders.
