Will John Wick anime prequel include Keanu Reeves? Chad Stahelski breaks silence
28 days ago | 5 Views
In case you missed the news, Chad Stahelski confirmed yesterday that a John Wick anime prequel is in development, revealing that the creative team is exploring a new format within the assassin’s universe. Stahelski also hinted that the anime would allow them to experiment with elements that live-action films might not. When asked whether this film would reveal the infamous "impossible task" that made John Wick retire, Stahelski dodged the question. However, in a different interview, he spoke about Keanu Reeves' involvement in the franchise.
Is Keanu Reeves Involved With John Wick's Anime Prequel?
Although Stahelski didn’t confirm if Keanu Reeves would appear in the anime, he did mention that everything made in the John Wick universe must pass through both him and Reeves. This means that the actor is still heavily involved in the development of the shows and films within the franchise.
“So we all decided, ‘Okay, well let’s just have it go through me as a stop-gate.’ We have three new things coming up: an anime feature, a TV show, a new spin-off [Donnie Yen’s Caine]. So Keanu and I are still very active on all that, and we didn’t want to get so big that we lost sight of what really makes John Wick, John Wick. So whether it’s the pinball machine, the anime feature film, or the new TV show we’re working on, it still comes through us. Every time I get something on my desk, the first person I call is Keanu,” Stahelski explained.
Stahelski also acknowledged that there are now many hands working on the John Wick franchise, which poses the challenge of ensuring the quality and essence of the original series remains intact. “It’s a way to protect ourselves. To be completely f**ing arrogant for a second, we didn’t just work the last ten years to see it all go to s***t,” he added.
