Director Vishnu Sasi Shankar, fresh off the success of Malikappuram, is diving into a horror comedy with his new film, Sumathi Valavu. This Malayalam flick features Arjun Ashokan in the lead and is currently wrapping up its final schedule. It's set to hit theaters in the summer of 2025. Arjun Ashokan's movie Sumathi Valavu has been released

Sumathi Valavu is hitting theaters on May 8, 2025, as confirmed by the creators. They revealed the release date with a motion poster featuring a bullock cart traveling down a forest trail. The caption in Malayalam reads, “The journey via Sumathi Valavu will start on May 8.”

The shooting for Sumathi Valavu kicked off in Palakkad back in November 2024, and now it's wrapping up its final schedule. This Malayalam horror comedy is written by Abhilash Pillai, who’s teaming up again with the director of Malikappuram. 

Here are the details of the cast for Sumathi Valavu 

In addition to Arjun Ashokan, Sumathi Valavu includes Balu Varghese, Gokul Suresh, Saiju Kurup, and Siddharth Bharathan in important roles. The cast also features Shravan Mukesh, Nandu, Manoj KU, Sreejith Ravi, and Bobby Kurian. 

The Malayalam movie is being made by Waterman Films LLP along with Murali Kunnumpurath. 

Sumathi Valavu plot overview

The movie takes us back to the 1990s and draws inspiration from a spooky folklore tale from Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala. According to a motion poster shared by the creators, the story revolves around a haunted location protected by the spirit of Sumathi, a Tamil woman. This eerie spot is referred to as Sumathi Valavu.

For those who might not know, the director of Sumathi Valavu, Vishnu Sasi Shankar, previously directed Malikappuram, which featured Unni Mukundan in the lead role. Malikappuram tells the story of an eight-year-old boy named Kallu, who dreams of visiting the Sabarimala temple. You can catch that film streaming now on Disney+ Hotstar.

Meanwhile, Arjun Ashokan is getting ready for his upcoming film Bromance, which also stars Mathew Thomas and Mahima Nambiar. This film is set to hit theaters on February 14, 2025.
