Wednesday is back for its second season on Netflix, and audiences can anticipate an even more eerie, strange, and mysterious experience compared to the first. The eagerly awaited second season of the series, which tracks the delightfully spooky Wednesday Addams as she navigates the dark corridors of Nevermore Academy, is set to debut in two segments: August 6, 2025, and September 3, 2025.

Jenna Ortega reprises her role as Wednesday Addams

The latest teaser trailer offers viewers a glimpse of the teen detective's twisted puzzles for the upcoming year, featuring both familiar and new faces in the chilling escapades. Returning to her part as the famous Wednesday Addams, Jenna Ortega (watch X) is ready to embody the character's iconic style and attitude.

Ortega mentioned that the most thrilling aspect is the chance to revisit the legendary character. She is also a producer for this season. The actress had the great honor of portraying Wednesday Addams once, and now she has the opportunity to don the outfit and demeanor again; it’s incredibly enjoyable. Wednesday Addams is one of the most remarkable characters ever. As an actress, it’s amusing, strange, and fun to portray someone who possesses a greater intellect than one could ever have since she speaks over everyone she engages with.

Pugsley embarks on his own journey

In this season, Isaac Ordonez’s Pugsley, Wednesday’s younger brother, starts his own journey at Nevermore Academy. Introducing additional family tension to Wednesday’s already chaotic life, their parents, Morticia and Gomez Addams, portrayed by Catherine Zeta-Jones and Luis Guzmán, respectively, will also have a more prominent presence on campus.

Season 1 primarily focused on Wednesday, but you saw the other characters and didn’t get to understand them. Now they are able to enrich their stories and expand the scope of the series, says Wednesday creator Alfred Gough, hinting at what’s forthcoming.

Season 2 is set to bring even more surprises and plot developments

At Nevermore, audiences can anticipate exploring more distinctive locations while reconnecting with familiar characters like Wednesday's roommate Enid (Emma Myers), frenemy Bianca (Joy Sunday), Hunter Doohan (now portraying Hyde), and, of course, the Thing (Victor Dorobantu).

Reconsider if you believe you understand what Wednesday will be like. Millar mentioned that nothing is as it appears in Season 2. Nevertheless, Wednesday believes she understands what Nevermore entails. She has never willingly returned to an educational institution before. However, her return entirely deflates her hopes. She mistakenly thinks she will be in control and knows the whereabouts of all the graves. Ultimately, where would the fun be?

Joanna Lumley steps in as Hester Frump

Hester Frump is Wednesday's closest companion and Morticia's intricate mother; Joanna Lumley's role as her adds even more thrill to the ensemble.

Millar shared that they were thrilled about the concept of introducing Hester, Morticia's mother, into the series this season. Joanna's interpretation of Hester was enchanting from the instant she stepped onto the scene; she gave an impeccable performance. She possesses both charm and humor. Wednesday and Hester share a distinctive chemistry; their eyes illuminate with delight whenever they share the screen. In his view, Hester will capture the hearts of everyone who encounters her.

Steve Buscemi brings fresh vibes to the role of Principal Barry Dort

Principal Barry Dort, portrayed by the mysterious Steve Buscemi, will breathe new life into the school after Principal Weems' heroic demise in the first season finale.

As Tim Burton (watch Big Fish) states, this season, Steve infused a renewed vigor. When people admire and enjoy watching someone else perform, it becomes quite apparent. Each day was a pleasure as he was able to express his creativity while having fun.

The Season 1 murderer, Tyler (Hunter Doohan), is unveiled to be a Hyde, a terrifying creature, which adds layers to the story. Season 2's chilling reunion will keep viewers captivated.

Notably, the relationship between Morticia and Wednesday remains central to Wednesday's exploration of familial connections.

The relationship between Morticia and Wednesday as mother and daughter

The inclusion of Wednesday's family in Nevermore was a logical decision, as stated by Millar, since it would introduce further challenges and create additional tension for the character. The show focuses on the relationship between mother and daughter, specifically Wednesday and Morticia.

Similarly, Thing's emotional trauma will be examined in Season 2. Ortega notes that the cherished hand carries a substantial amount of pain and emotional weight that it must address.

Fred Armisen's Uncle Fester will return for more chaos, and the cast is expanding with the inclusion of Billie Piper, Thandiwe Newton, Frances O'Connor, Haley Joel Osment, and several new regular and guest actors. Gough and Millar expressed that their aim this season was to discover new talents while also inviting some acting icons they have long respected to join Jenna and the group at Nevermore.

Ireland, which Gough and Millar describe as "truly magical," offered the stunning backdrop for Season 2's filming, enhancing the series to a level of grand spectacle and enduring beauty. Their justification stems from the fact that Bram Stoker, the writer of Dracula, was born and raised in Dublin and that the stories of Irish folklore inspired his works.
