Nearly a month after hinting at its release on OTT platforms, Vineeth Sreenivasan’s latest Malayalam comedy, Oru Jaathi Jathakam, has officially premiered on Manorama Max as of April 1. Initially anticipated to start streaming in March, the film is directed by M Mohanan and features a screenplay by Rakesh Mantodi, known for his work on Godha and Thira.

'Oru Jaathi Jathakam' was released in theaters during the last week of January, following the postponement of Mohanlal’s Thudarum. This comedy also stars Nikhila Vimal, Kayadu Lohar, Indu Thampi, and Sayonara Philip. While there were expectations for it to be available on Prime Video, it is currently only accessible in Malayalam on Manorama Max.

Reasons to watch Oru Jaathi Jathakam

In a year marked by numerous Malayalam films failing to recoup their production costs, Vineeth’s comedy stands out as one of the few that achieved financial balance. The film faced competition from Basil Joseph’s critically lauded Ponman, which is currently available for streaming on JioHotstar in Malayalam, Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi, yet it still managed to generate a respectable box office revenue.

The narrative centers on a 37-year-old man named Jayesh, who has specific criteria for his ideal life partner. Convinced that he will remain unmarried if he surpasses the age of 40, he explores various methods to secure a partner, but his biases consistently hinder his efforts. Ultimately, when he finally finds someone suitable, he encounters a new set of obstacles. The story follows his journey as he navigates these challenges and emerges as a changed individual.

Vineeth Sreenivasan’s upcoming projects

In the meantime, Vineeth is preparing for his directorial debut, which is anticipated to be an action-thriller. The actor-director is also involved in Dileep’s Bha.Bha.Bha, which features a cameo appearance by Mohanlal. The film is projected to be released in theaters during Onam 2025.
