Director Puri Jagannadh has been facing a tough time with consecutive flops, including the 2022 movie Liger and the upcoming 2024 release Double iSmart. On Ugadi, he revealed that his next project will feature actor Vijay Sethupathi, which sparked mixed reactions online. When a user on X (formerly Twitter) slammed Vijay's decisions and labeled Puri as 'outdated,' actor Shanthanu Bhagyaraj stepped in to support him.

In a post that has since been removed, an X user took aim at Vijay for teaming up with a director they deemed 'outdated,' especially after the success of Maharaja, suggesting that the actor should be more selective with his projects.

Shanthanu fired back, emphasizing that both Puri and Vijay deserve respect. He stated, “Don’t talk like that about someone, man… Choose your words carefully on public platforms… At the end of the day, he’s a respected filmmaker, and we should show a certain level of respect to others. I didn’t expect this from you.”

The user removed their post and commented, “My bad, man. That was just my opinion. I’ll be more careful with my words from now on.” Fans had mixed reactions to Shanthanu’s response; some noted that Puri had a few flops, while others wondered if Shanthanu was involved in the film as well.

Latest developments

For those who might not know, Shanthanu is a former child actor and the son of well-known actors K Bhagyaraj and Poornima Bhagyaraj. He has appeared in several Tamil films, including Sakkarakatti, Paava Kadhaigal, and the more recent Blue Star. He also acted alongside Vijay and Vijay Sethupathi in the 2021 film Master, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj.

In 2024, Vijay featured in Merry Christmas, Maharaja, and Viduthalai Part 2. He’s set to appear in upcoming projects like Ace, Train, and an untitled film with Pandiraj, in addition to Puri’s movie.

On Ugadi, Puri’s production company, Puri Connects, announced the new film, stating, “On this auspicious day of #Ugadi, we’re kicking off an exciting new venture with an incredible collaboration.
