The journey of how Maharaja emerged as the top-grossing South Indian film in China.
As reported by Sacnilk, Vijay Sethupathi's film Maharaja has exceeded the lifetime earnings of ₹80.50 crore achieved by Prabhas and SS Rajamouli's Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, thus establishing itself as the highest-grossing South Indian film in China. In just 21 days, Maharaja has generated around ₹85.75 crore in China and is approaching the ₹100 crore milestone at the Chinese box office.
Dangal continues to hold the position as the highest-grossing Indian film at the Chinese box office.
Aamir Khan's Dangal remains the highest-grossing Indian film in China, followed by titles such as Secret Superstar, Andhadhun, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Hindi Medium, Hichki, PK, Mom, and Toilet: Ek Prem Katha. Should Vijay Sethupathi's Maharaja exceed the ₹100-crore threshold in China, it will surpass Akshay Kumar's Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, thereby becoming the ninth highest-grossing Indian film at the Chinese box office.
Additionally, Maharaja is approaching the ₹200-crore milestone in global earnings. Currently, the film's worldwide collection stands at ₹193 crores, and if it maintains its strong performance in China, it may surpass the ₹200-crore mark, making it the fourth Tamil film of 2024 to achieve this milestone.
