Following the release of his 2023 film Viduthalai: Part 1, Vetrimaaran directed the sequel, which premiered in theatres on December 20. This period drama centres around a newly appointed police officer assigned to apprehend the leader of a people's movement, Vaathiyar, portrayed by Vijay Sethupathi. The first half concludes with his capture, while the second half delves into Vaathiyar's backstory, exploring the events that shaped his character.

Viduthalai 2 is currently screening in theatres. ZEE5 has acquired the post-theatrical streaming rights for the film, in addition to holding the rights for the first instalment. Viduthalai: Part 2 is expected to be available for streaming in January 2025. In the meantime, viewers can watch the first part for free on ZEE5, which is also accessible through the OTTplay Premium app.

Viduthalai: Part 2 movie plot

The cast of Viduthalai: Part 2 features Soori and Vijay Sethupathi, alongside Kishore, Manju Warrier, Ken Karunas, Bose Venkat, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Chetan, Rajiv Menon, and others. The narrative explores the transformation of Perumal Vaathiyar from a teacher to a comrade, ultimately evolving into the leader of a people's movement. In this film, Manju Warrier portrays the romantic interest of Vijay Sethupathi.

Produced by Elred Kumar, Viduthalai: Part 2 features music composed by Ilaiyaraaja. The film has a runtime of two hours and 48 minutes and has received an A certification. The technical team includes Velraj as the cinematographer and R Ramar as the editor, with Jacki serving as the art director. The foundational concept of Viduthalai is derived from Vengaichami, written by Thangam, and the film is based on a short story authored by Jeyamohan.
