One of the most anticipated films, Vidaamuyarchi, featuring Ajith Kumar in the principal role, was originally scheduled for release during Pongal in January. However, with just a few weeks remaining, the producers announced on Tuesday that the release of this action thriller has been delayed. A new date for the release has yet to be confirmed.
Vidaamuyarchi postponed; Tamil Nadu to have no star release for Pongal?
Ajith Kumar's Vidaamuyarchi was among the most eagerly awaited films from Tamil cinema in 2025. Following a subdued year in 2024, the industry was poised for a resurgence, with Vidaamuyarchi set to be the first major release of the new year. Initially scheduled for a Pongal release, Lyca Productions, the film's producer, recently announced that it will not premiere on Pongal day, disappointing fans with their New Year’s message. A new release date has yet to be confirmed. Reports indicate that financial issues have necessitated this postponement.
With Vidaamuyarchi no longer competing for the Pongal slot, the only film slated for release is Arun Vijay’s Vanangaan, resulting in a rather lacklustre festive season for Tamil Nadu this Pongal. Typically, this period features numerous releases, particularly those starring prominent actors, but this year will see a notable absence of such events.
Cast and crew of Vidaamuyarchi
The film is helmed by Magizh Thirumeni, marking his first collaboration with the actor. In addition to Ajith Kumar, Vidaamuyarchi features Trisha, Arjun Sarja, and Regina Cassandra, among others. Although a specific release date has not been disclosed, the project is supported by Lyca Productions and features music composed by Anirudh Ravichander. According to reports, the film is rumored to be a remake of the Hollywood movie Breakdown, although this has not been officially confirmed by the producers.
