Vidaamuyarchi, the action thriller film which stars Ajith Kumar in the lead role, is one of the most anticipated upcoming projects of Tamil cinema. The movie directed by Magizh Thirumeni is now nearing the final stages of its production. Trisha Krishnan is playing the female lead opposite Ajith in the film, which is expected to hit the theatres in October 2024. Meanwhile, it has been rumoured that Vidaamuyarchi is an adaptation of the 1997-released American film Breakdown, which features Kurt Russell in the lead role.
Is Vidaamuyarchi an adaptation of American film Breakdown?
Vidaamuyarchi is now garnering the attention of cine-goers after a few netizens found similarities between the Ajith Kumar film’s posters and the visuals of Breakdown, the 1997-released American film. A group of film enthusiasts point out that the official posters of the Magizh Thirumeni directorial and their backdrops reminded them of the Kurt Russell starrer, which narrated the story of Jeff Taylor, who is in search of his missing wife Amy Taylor.
“Vidaamuyarchi remake of Breakdown (1997),” wrote a netizen, who also shared a collage that draws comparisons between the characters of the original, and the cast of Magizh Thirumeni’s film. The film fanatics feel that Ajith Kumar and Trisha Krishnan are playing the roles, essayed by Kurt Russell and Kathleen Quinlan in the original. They also believe that Arjun Sarja is appearing as the lead antagonist, the character played by JT Walsh, in the original. However, the Vidaamuyarchi team has not reacted to the reports yet.
Vidaamuyarchi shoot and release plans
The makers recently wrapped up the Azerbaijan schedule of the Ajith Kumar starrer. As per the reports, the team is planning to shoot the pending portions of the highly anticipated film at a famous film city in Chennai, in a brief schedule. The final schedule of Vidaamuyarchi is expected to wrapped up by the end of August 2024. In that case, the Magizh Thirumeni directorial, which is bankrolled by Lyca Productions, will hit the theatres on October 10 or 31, 2024. An official update on the same is expected to be out very soon.
