Madhya Pradesh's Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has given tax-free status to Vicky Kaushal's film Chhaava, which is a period drama about the legendary Maratha king, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj.

On Wednesday, during a public event celebrating Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's birth anniversary, Mohan Yadav made an exciting announcement.

He revealed, “To honor Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's birth anniversary, I'm thrilled to announce that the Hindi film 'Chhava,' which tells the story of his son Sambhaji Maharaj, will be released tax-free.” He shared this update on X, which used to be called Twitter.

Earlier today, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis weighed in on the growing calls for tax-free status for the film Chhaava, which is a period drama about the legendary Maratha ruler, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj.

Fadnavis shared his admiration for the film's historical representation and mentioned that he’s received a lot of positive buzz from the audience.

"I'm thrilled that such a great movie has been created about Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. I haven't seen it yet, but I've heard from many that it stays true to history," Fadnavis remarked.

He also pointed out that Maharashtra had already eliminated the entertainment tax back in 2017, saying, "We'll explore the best ways to support this film and ensure it reaches as many viewers as possible."

Chhaava Overview

Chhaava, directed by Laxman Utekar and produced by Dinesh Vijan's Maddock Films, is a historical action flick featuring Vicky Kaushal as Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. The cast also includes Rashmika Mandanna as Yesubai Bhonsale, Akshaye Khanna as Aurangzeb, Diana Penty as Zinat-un-Nissa Begum, Divya Dutta as Soyarabai, Vineet Kumar Singh as Kavi Kalash, and Ashutosh Rana as Hambirrao Mohite. This film is based on the Marathi novel Chhava by Shivaji Sawant and has been well-received by both audiences and critics alike. It hit theaters on February 14.
