To the joy of movie buffs, a number of beloved Malayalam films are making a comeback in theatres. The most recent of them is Vettam, and it will shortly be released in theatres. On the other hand, the precise release date remains unknown. Dileep, Bhavna Pani, Kalabhavan Mani, Innocent, Jagathy Sreekumar, and Janardhanan play pivotal roles in this movie, which is also streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

Gopi, a small-time criminal, steals an expensive chain and puts it in Veena's bag to get away from a police inspector. He tries to take it from her later, but the chain is gone. The main plot of the movie revolves around how he joins her in her attempt to prevent her lover from wedlocking a wealthy businessman's daughter and a funny series of miscommunication-related occurrences.

On the occasion of Onam, Vettam was released on August 20, 2004. At the box office, the movie was a mediocre success. Although the movie did not do particularly well at the box office, it has become something of a cult classic over time. Thanks to the humorous elements contributed by the entire cast, not just the main performers, the movie acquired popularity after its TV premiere and is now regarded as one of films that are repeatedly watched by audience of all ages. 

Positive response for Malayalam re-releases in 2024

A number of Malayalam films have been re-released this year, and fans have been flocking to theatres to witness them on the big screen. Last month, Mohanlal's Devadoothan made a comeback to theatres. Among the actors with notable parts in it are Jaya Prada, Janardhanan, Jagathy Sreekumar, Vijayalakshmi, Murali, and Vineeth Kumar.

Manichitrathazhu, the well-liked psychological horror film, returned to theatres on August 17. It is one of the most watched films in Malayalam cinema history, starring Suresh Gopi, Mohanlal, and Shobana. Thenmavin Kombathu's new version is set to debut in theatres on January 25, coinciding with Republic Day weekend.
