The much-expected Rajinikanth film Vettaiyan hit theatres on Thursday. The star-studded affair boasts artistes from various industries and is directed by TJ Gnanavel. While it is a no-brainer that a Rajinikanth film will pull crowds to theatres, as per reports the film has managed to collect Rs 30 crore (nett) in India across all the languages.

Actor Rajinikanth who enjoys massive fanbase in south, joined hands with filmmaker TJ Gnanavel for Vettaiyan. The cop action drama features a star ensemble, including actors Amitabh Bachchan, Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati, Manju Warrier, Ritika Singh and Dushara Vijayan.
The film released in theatres on Thursday and as per reports, has collected Rs 30 crore (nett) from the domestic box office in all languages, with major share coming from Tamil Nadu with Rs 26 crore. It is expected that the film will collect more over the weekend. The film also enjoyed a good occupancy rate in Tamil Nadu, with majority of screens dedicated for Vettaiyan.
Vettaiyan is an action-drama with Rajinikanth playing a police officer known to carry out encounters with ease. After one of his assignments leads him to change his mind, the rest of the film is about how the protagonist tries to expose a bigger syndicate of crime.

Vettaiyan is produced by Lyca Productions and has music by Anirudh Ravichander. The post-theatrical streaming rights of the film have been bagged by Prime Video. The film will be available on the platform once it completes the theatrical rights. However, an exact OTT release date will be mentioned by the makers after a few weeks to a month.
Vettaiyan marked the first time Rajinikanth worked with TJ Gnanavel. It has the camera cranked by SR Kathir I.S.C. B Kiruthika has penned the screenplay. Other parts of the technical crew include K Kadhir as production designer, Anbariv handling the stunts, editor Philomin Raj, and art director Sakthee Venkatraj M.
