Director Vetrimaaran, who recently helmed the Tamil film Viduthalai: Part 2 starring Vijay Sethupathi, will be next beginning the works of the much-anticipated film Vaadivaasal with Suriya. However, there is a latest buzz that the filmmaker has already acquired the remake rights of the upcoming Malayalam sports drama film Alappuzha Gymkhana, starring Naslen in the lead role.

Vetrimaaran to remake Alappuzha Gymkhana?

Alappuzha Gymkhana is an upcoming Malayalam film, directed by Khalid Rahman who has made films like Unda and Thallumalla. The film stars Naslen K Gafoor of Premalu fame and is touted to be a sports comedy-drama, with Ganapathi in a prominent role.

As per the latest reports, Tamil filmmaker Vetrimaaran has acquired the remake rights of the Malayalam film even before it hit theatres, and is looking to adapt it in Tamil. Actor Ken Karunas, who frequently appears in Vetrimaaran’s films, is expected to headline the project. However, no official confirmation on the same has been made as of yet.

Alappuzha Gymkhana also features Sandeep Pradeep, Anagha Ravi, Lukman Avaran, Franco Francis, and others. The film will revolve around boxing sports, with script penned by Khalid along with Sreeni Saseendran, and Vishnu Vijay scoring the music.

Vetrimaaran begins Vaadivaasal with Suriya

The long-pending project of Vetrimaaran with Suriya, Vaadivaasal is soon to begin works. Producer Kalaippuli S Thanu met Suriya and Vetrimaaran recently and reaffirmed that Vaadivaasal's works have started, much against the speculations that the project has been dropped. Vaadivaasal is a period action drama, which will see Suriya collaborating with Vetrimaaran for the first time. The film revolves around the traditional bull-taming sports in Tamil Nadu.

Meanwhile, Vetrimaaran’s Viduthalai: Part 2 has begun streaming on Prime Video. The period action drama stars Soori, Vijay Sethupathi, Manju Warrier, Kishore, Gautham Menon, Rajiv Menon and others in prominent roles.
