Shankar is set to bounce after a low phase, with the upcoming Ram Charan starrer, Game Changer. After the release of the Telugu biggie, the master craftsman is expected to kickstart the pre-production of his dream project Velpari. The upcoming trilogy, which is based on the best-selling Tamil novel Veerayuga Nayagan Velpari, reportedly features Suriya in the lead role. If the recent updates are to be believed, Shankar is reuniting with celebrated musician AR Rahman, for the project.
Shankar and AR Rahman to team up for Velpari?
If the recent updates are to be believed, director Shankar is planning to reunite with AR Rahman after a long gap of 6 years. The grapevine suggests that the Academy Award-winning musician is officially on board for the upcoming period film, which is touted to be one of the most expensive films ever made in Indian cinema, yet. For the uninitiated, Shankar and AR Rahman last teamed up in 2018, for the blockbuster Enthiran sequel 2.0, which featured Rajinikanth in the lead role.
The filmmaker initially approached AR Rahman for Indian 2, his latest outing which featured Kamal Haasan in the lead role. Even though the musician originally composed the music score for the first installment Indian, he was unable to join Indian 2. AR Rahman turned down the sequel as he was busy with the works of the Ponniyin Selvan franchise, directed by legendary filmmaker Mani Ratnam. Shankar went on to rope in Anirudh Ravichander for Indian 2, and later for Game Changer, he decided to team up with S Thaman.
Suriya and Chiyaan Vikram to team up for Velpari?
According to the grapevine, Velpari is expected to feature Suriya in the lead role. However, Chiyaan Vikram has also been approached to play an equally-important role, in the S Shankar directorial. The prestigious marks the Soorarai Pottru actor’s first collaboration with the master craftsman. If things go as planned, Velpari marks Vikram’s reunion with the Shankar, after a of 9 years, and his second collaboration with Suriya, after 21 years. The project is expected to have an official launch, in 2025.
