Vedaa box office collection Day 1: John Abraham and Sharvari-Wagh's action-packed movie released in theatres on Independence Day (August 15). The movie clashed with two other anticipated releases, Akshay Kumar’s Khel Khel Mein and Shraddha Kapoor’s horror comedy sequel Stree 2. Unsurprisingly, the latter is winning hearts with its well-crafted plot and roaring at the box office. However, the twist is that Nikkhil Advani's actioner has surpassed Khel Khel Mein, as it slightly performed better than it. The early reports suggest that Vedaa has secured the second position on Day 1 by raking in over Rs 6 crore.

Vedaa box office earnings

Bollywood’s latest action thriller Vedaa might be lagging far behind the horror comedy Stree 2, but it still made a decent opening. According to Sacnilk, Vedaa earned ₹6.52 crore at the domestic box office on Day 1. While the movie doesn’t beat his all-time best Pathaan, where he played an antagonist, Vedaa still manages to hold its fort. Comparing Vedaa with John Abraham’s last release, Ek Villain Return, Vedaa lags behind as it failed to mimic its collection of over 7 crores. John’s other independence day releases, like Satyamev Jaytate and Batla House, were better received than Vedaa.

Meanwhile, Amar Kaushik's highly anticipated horror comedy sequel Stree 2, is creating a wave at the box office as it rakes in ₹54.35 crore on Day 1. Starring Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor, alongside Pankaj Tripathi and Abhishek Banerjee, Stree 2 has etched history by becoming the biggest opener of the year.

Vedaa plot and cast

Helmed by Nikkhil Advani (Kal Ho Na Ho), Vedaa sheds light on the caste system and social stereotypes. The power-packed narrative of resilience follows the inspiring journey of a young Dalit woman as she fights back the system through boxing. Sharvari Wagh plays the titular character, who battles against the odds with the support of her mentor and former soldier (played by John). It also features Tamannaah Bhatia and Abhishek Banerjee.
