Varun Dhawan's action film Baby John premiered in theatres on December 25, 2024, coinciding with Christmas; however, it seems the movie has not contributed to the holiday spirit. Reports indicate that Varun Dhawan's film is experiencing a disappointing performance at the box office, leading cinemas to seek alternatives. Interestingly, the Hindi adaptation of Marco, a Malayalam action movie, is gaining popularity and is consequently occupying more screening slots that were initially allocated to the Bollywood film in North India.
Baby John vs Marco
Bollywood Hungama has reported that Varun Dhawan's action film, Baby John, debuted with a disappointing opening of Rs 11 crore on Christmas, falling short of expectations, and experiencing a further decline in subsequent days. This downward trend has compelled cinemas to implement damage control measures and seek alternatives. According to the report from Bollywood Hungama, the film Marco, featuring Unni Mukundan, has emerged as a more lucrative option, leading to an increase in screenings for its Hindi version.
Cinemas have expanded the showings of the A-rated Malayalam film's Hindi version from 34 to 140 on Saturday, with plans to increase this number to 225 by Sunday. This development is encouraging for Marco, as Malayalam films typically face little competition from their Hindi counterparts, particularly in major markets.
A report from Bollywood Hungama, citing a source, indicated that there is significant interest in learning more about Marco, which is being promoted as the most violent film in Malayalam cinema.
Marco release
Unni Mukundan's film Marco, a Malayalam action movie, premiered in theatres on December 20, 2024, and has been performing exceptionally well. Within just eight days of its release, Marco has amassed nearly Rs 60 crore globally at the box office.
The thrilling film, characterized by intense violence, has been released in five languages and has managed to captivate audiences across all linguistic backgrounds. It is worth mentioning that the Hindi version of Marco is also achieving notable success. Directed by Haneef Adeni, the film is set to premiere in Telugu-speaking regions on January 1, 2025.
In addition, Varun Dhawan's film features prominent South Indian actresses Keerthy Suresh and Wamiqa Gabbi. This project, directed by Kalees, is a remake of the Tamil film Theri, originally created by Atlee and Vijay.
