The anticipation is almost at an end as Baby John prepares for its release on OTT platforms. Prime Video has made the film available for rent at a price of ₹249. This action drama, directed by Kalees, features Varun Dhawan in the lead role, alongside Wamiqa Gabbi, Zara Zyanna, Keerthy Suresh—who is making her debut in Bollywood—and Jackie Shroff. Baby John is a reimagining of Atlee's 2016 Tamil hit Theri, which starred Vijay and Samantha Ruth Prabhu.

Overview of Baby John’s Plot  

In this 2024 release, John (Dhawan) and Khushi's (Zyanna) peaceful existence is shattered by a sex-trafficking ring. As he seeks to start anew, John reveals his past as Deputy Commissioner Satya (Dhawan), a man driven by vengeance for his family's murder, dedicated to protecting young girls and exacting justice on those responsible.

Kiran Koushik was responsible for the cinematography of the film, while Ruben handled the editing, and Thaman S. was in charge of the musical score.

Box Office Performance

The film Baby John premiered on Christmas Eve, 2024, receiving mixed reviews from critics and experiencing a poor box office performance.

On its opening day, Baby John was projected to have generated between ₹11.25 and ₹13.5 crore nett at the domestic box office. As of January 2, 2025, the film's total worldwide gross stood at ₹53.4 crore, with ₹39.74 crore originating from India and ₹13.66 crore from international markets. It was anticipated that the film's final global gross would range between ₹56.49 and ₹59 crore.

Varun Dhawan on Adapting Theri

In a previous interview regarding Baby John, Dhawan explained that there was a specific reason for Atlee's involvement with the project; the director indicated that a significant alteration of the film's geographical context was necessary. The actor expressed his belief that such a substantial change in geography is sufficient for the film to be considered an adaptation rather than a direct remake.

Moreover, Dhawan went on to say that the film featured a modern perspective on parenting and real-life occurrences concerning the safety of women in India.

OTT release date

Baby John will have its full-fledged OTT release on Prime Video a couple of weeks later, that is, by February 20-21, 2025.
