Vanangaan box office collection day 1: Arun Vijay and Bala’s film struggles to make it to Rs 1 crore

Pongal represents a bustling time for Tamil Nadu, as the festive season is marked by the release of numerous films. This year, with Vidaamuyarchi no longer in contention, several small to medium-budget films are taking the spotlight. One such film is Vanangaan, which premiered on January 10 (Friday) and stars Arun Vijay, directed by Bala.
On its opening day, the film garnered a total of Rs 0.85 crore (nett) across India, which indicates a lacklustre start, according to a report from Sacnilk. With the first-day earnings falling short of one crore, the film faces significant challenges in competing against the many other films set to debut on Sunday and Tuesday.

Vanangaan is a collaborative production by B Studios and V House Productions, categorized as an action thriller taking place in Kanyakumari. The film features a cast that includes Roshni Prakash, Samuthirakani, Mysskin, Ridha, Chhaya Devi, Bala Sivaji, Shanmugarajan, Yohan Chacko, Kavitha Gopi, Brindha Sarathy, Mai Pa Narayanan, Aruldas, Munish Sivagurunath, among others.
Vanangaan plot and review
Arun Vijay portrays Kote, a character who is both deaf and mute, for whom the expression of violence conveys more than words ever could. He shares a close bond with his sister, whom he cherishes deeply, and takes on various odd jobs to make ends meet. While employed as a security guard at a local orphanage, Kote witnesses an event that compels him to resort to violence.
Upon its release, Vanangaan received predominantly negative reviews, with numerous critics highlighting the voyeuristic nature of its depiction of sexual violence. It is worth mentioning that the film was initially set to feature Suriya, who later withdrew from the project.
