Suriya, the renowned actor, and Vetrimaaran, the esteemed filmmaker, officially revealed their inaugural onscreen partnership, Vaadivaasal, in 2021. Although the film commenced with a test shoot, it faced several production challenges that led to a temporary halt. Nevertheless, in recent interviews, both Suriya and Vetrimaaran have assured that the project remains active. Notably, producer Kalaipuli S Thanu has recently announced that Vaadivaasal is poised to begin production shortly.

Vaadivaasal to start rolling soon?

In a recent discussion with Behindwoods, Kalaipuli S Thanu, the producer of Vaadivaasal, provided significant updates regarding the film. The experienced producer affirmed that the period drama is indeed progressing and is scheduled to commence production shortly. Kalaipuli S Thanu also mentioned that Suriya has expressed his readiness to begin filming. Nevertheless, the team is currently awaiting Vetrimaaran's completion of his latest project, Viduthalai Part 2.

The filmmaker is now free from any other professional obligations and is prepared to recommence work on Vaadivaasal soon. If the schedule proceeds as anticipated, Suriya and Vetrimaaran are expected to initiate filming of the period drama within a few weeks. Some unofficial reports indicate that the computer-generated imagery (CGI) work for the film has recently commenced at a well-known studio in the United Kingdom. Should everything unfold as expected, the actor-director partnership will soon make an official announcement regarding the start of production.

Vaadivaasal: Here’s what we know

According to various reports, Suriya is anticipated to portray dual roles in Vaadivaasal, depicting both a father and his son. This film, inspired by CS Chellappa’s acclaimed Tamil novel of the same title, is said to centre around the traditional sport of Jallikattu. Andrea Jeremiah is likely to take on the role of the female lead in this highly anticipated project, which is also expected to feature actor-filmmaker Ameer Sulthan in a significant role. Additionally, GV Prakash Kumar has been engaged to create the film's musical score and songs.
