Director Mari Selvaraj’s recent film Vaazhai has been running successfully at the box office. The film, which is based on the real events, that occurred in the filmmaker’s life, received positive response from critics and audiences alike. After completing its theatrical run, the film will be available on Disney+ Hotstar. An OTT premiere date is yet to be announced.

Vaazhai on OTT

Vaazhai, the Tamil film released in theatres on August 23. The film is written and directed by filmmaker Mari Selvaraj, and has been earning good word of mouth and positive reviews. Vaazhai is based on the events that took place during Mari Selvaraj’s childhood days.

The film is presented by the banners Disney+ Hotstar, Navvi Studios, and Farmer’s Master Plan Production, with Red Giant Movies releasing it. Given the streaming platform’s association with the project, it is assumed that Disney+ Hotstar also has the post-theatrical streaming rights to the film. With the film having a successful theatrical run, Vaazhai will take some time to get released on the platform. An OTT release date is yet to be announced.

The cast comprises of Ponvel M, Raghul R, Kalaiyarasan, Nikhila Vimal, J Sathish Kumar, Dhivya Duraisamy, Janaki, and others.

Vaazhai is based on labourers at a banana plantation. It follows two teenage boys who attend school during the week and work along with their families during the weekend. Nikhila Vemal plays a school teacher, while Dhivya and Kalaiyarasan play plantation workers. The technical crew consists of cinematographer Theni Eswar and editor Suriya Pradhaman. Santhosh Narayanan has scored the music for the film.

Vaazhai will be the latest addition in the streaming platform’s Tamil content. After the ongoing Uppu Puli Kaaram, and limited series Chutney Sambar and My Perfectt Husband, the platform announced the third season of Kanaa Kaanum Kaalangal. It is set to premiere on August 30. Disney+ Hotstar has also acquired the rights of upcoming film Lubber Pandhu.
