April has been a month of mostly laid-back cinema for the Tamil film industry, which only saw sporadic releases. Apart from Ajith Kumar’s Good Bad Ugly, there has been no star film release. But having said that, come May, you will be flooded with some good Tamil cinema, starting from Suriya’s Retro. Here are a few Tamil films that will be streaming on OTTs in May 2025.

Good Bad Ugly – Netflix – TBD

Good Bad Ugly is a Tamil action film featuring Ajith Kumar in the principal role. Directed by Adhik Ravichandran and produced by Mythri Movie Makers, the movie marks the reunion of Ajith and Trisha, who previously collaborated in Mankatha and Vidaamuyarchi. The cast also includes Usha Uthup, Rahul Dev, Kingsley, Roadies Raghu, Pradeep Kabra, Harry Josh, KGF Avinash, Yogi Babu, Prasanna, Prabhu, Priya Prakash, Simran, Tinnu Anand, Sayaji Shinde, Jackie Shroff, Sunil, and Arjun Das.

Naangal – TBD

Naangal is a Tamil drama that delves into the complexities of a dysfunctional family. Marking the directorial debut of Avinash Prakash, the film had a successful run at various festivals before its theatrical release in April. The story revolves around three teenage sons who endure the oppressive and abusive nature of their father. The cast includes newcomers Mithun V, Rithik M, and Nithin D portraying the three boys, while Abdul Rafe and Prarthana S take on the roles of their parents. Naangal examines the challenging lives of these young men as they navigate the strict and harsh environment imposed by their father within their expansive estate in Ooty.

Sumo – TBD

Sumo is an upcoming sports comedy film featuring Mirchi Shiva, Yoshinori Tashiro, and Priya Anand in prominent roles. Directed by SP Hosimin, the story revolves around a sumo wrestler who washes ashore in Chennai. Possessing the intellect of a child, the sumo forms a bond with a local man. The cast also includes VTV Ganesh, Chetan, Besant Ravi, Srinath, and Yogi Babu. Notably, Shiva and Priya have previously appeared together in the romantic comedies Vanakkam Chennai and Kasethan Kadavulada.

Gangers – TBD

Gangers is an anticipated film that is expected to be released on an OTT platform in May. Directed by Sundar C, known for his recent successes with Aranmanai 4 and Madha Gaja Raja, this film marks his return to the director's chair. He will share the screen with renowned comedian Vadivelu after a significant hiatus. In Gangers, Sundar C portrays a physical training master, and the cast also includes Catherine Tresa. The film is expected to be a commercial entertainer, consistent with Sundar C's previous works.
