Marco astonished audiences as Unni Mukundan's film presented unprecedented levels of violence on the silver screen, a phenomenon previously unseen in Malayalam cinema. Those who were unable to view the film, directed by Haneef Adeni, during its theatrical run have been eagerly anticipating its release on OTT platforms. According to recent reports, it is expected that Unni Mukundan's intense action film will soon be available for streaming on SonyLiv.

Marco on OTT

Various online platforms and industry analysts indicate that SonyLiv has acquired the OTT rights for the film Marco, which premiered in theatres on December 20, 2024. However, neither the producers nor the streaming service has provided official confirmation regarding this acquisition. Additionally, an OTT release date has yet to be disclosed. Should Marco become available on SonyLiv, subscribers of OTTplay Premium will have the opportunity to view this Malayalam action film.

Earlier this month, speculation arose regarding Netflix's potential acquisition of the film Marco. In response to the growing buzz surrounding the film's possible premiere on the platform, Sharif Muhammed, the producer of Marco under Cubes Entertainments, provided a clarification to address these rumours.

Marco's plot and cast

Unni Mukundan portrays the central character in Marco, a film that depicts his violent quest for vengeance following the murder of a cherished individual. This film serves as a spinoff of Mikhael, which featured Nivin Pauly in the principal role. Unni Mukundan reprised his role as Marco from the 2019 installment. Both Marco and the Nivin Pauly-led Mikhael have been directed by Haneef Adeni. The cast of Marco also includes notable actors such as Siddique, Jagadish, Abhimanyu S Thilakan, and Kabir Duhan Singh in significant roles.

The Malayalam film emerged as a standout success among the Christmas releases, generating over Rs 115 crore at the global box office.

In contrast, the other two Christmas releases, Mohanlal’s Barroz and Aashiq Abu's Rifle Club, became available on OTT platforms within a month of their theatrical debut. Barroz is currently streaming on Hotstar, while Rifle Club can be found on Netflix. Additionally, the Christmas release Extra Decent, featuring Suraj Venjaramoodu, has not yet disclosed its OTT distribution partner.
