Malayalam actor Unni Mukundan's film Marco is establishing ambitious benchmarks for other productions within the industry to aspire to. Directed by Haneef Adeni, the film has received an A rating from the CBFC due to its intense action sequences and has already garnered nearly Rs 60 crore globally by the conclusion of its first week. It is anticipated to reach the Rs 75 crore milestone by the end of the final weekend of 2024.
What would be particularly gratifying for the filmmakers is that the success is not limited to the Malayalam version; the Hindi-dubbed edition is also performing admirably at the box office. It has reportedly surpassed the earnings of Prithviraj Sukumaran's Aadujeevitham Hindi version, which earned less than Rs 28 lakh in the North Indian market. To date, Marco's Hindi version has accumulated Rs 31 lakh, according to industry analysts.
Marco collects Rs 60 Cr in worldwide box office on Day 8
Film industry tracker Sacnilk has reported that the Unni Mukundan film concluded its first week with a global collection of Rs 52.8 Cr, subsequently adding an extra Rs 7 Cr worldwide on the final Friday of 2024. On December 27, the film garnered Rs 2.35 Cr from the Indian market, bringing its domestic total to Rs 34.15 Cr.
The Hindi version of the film is anticipated to boost its earnings, as the production team has announced an increase in the number of screenings from 34 to 140. Additionally, the unfavourable reviews of Baby John, along with the nearing conclusion of the record-breaking box office performance of Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2, have contributed positively to the film's success, which features Bollywood actor Kabir Duhan Singh in the role of the antagonist, Cyrus.
Marco’s Telugu version to release in 500 shows
Marco is set to receive an additional boost beginning January 1, as its Telugu version will be launched in 500 theatres across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The initial two weeks of 2025 may also mark the conclusion of Marco’s theatrical engagement, as several films, including Tovino Thomas’ Identity, Asif Ali’s Rekhachithram, and Ram Charan’s Game Changer, are scheduled for release on January 2 and January 10, respectively.
The film centres on a vengeful young man named Marco, who embarks on a quest for revenge following the murder of his brother, Victor. This pursuit, however, leads to severe repercussions as his family becomes entangled in the ensuing violence. The film has been rated A due to its depiction of violent and graphic content, including the brutal murder of children.
