Typically, when major films are released simultaneously, there is often concern regarding the potential impact one film's performance may have on another. However, this is not a consideration in the case of Unni Mukudan's Marco and Mohanlal's Barroz. The former is a hyper-violent action thriller designed exclusively for adult audiences who favor such genres, while Barroz is targeted towards children and family viewers.
In a recent media interaction following the initial screening of his latest film, Unni shared his thoughts on Mohanlal's directorial debut, which is set to premiere in theaters on December 25.
Marco star Unni Mukundan on Mohanlal’s Barroz release
Unni, who previously collaborated with Mohanlal in Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Bro Daddy, expressed his excitement regarding the forthcoming children's fantasy film. “Malayalam cinema is the birthplace of numerous pioneering projects, including the first 3D film. I am eagerly anticipating Lal sir’s Barroz, which is set to be released soon. In my view, this film will elevate Mohanlal, the consummate actor, to new heights,” he stated.
The actor further emphasized that his film and Barroz cater to distinct audience segments. “Typically, actors may choose to direct a film, but he opted for a 3D format. While he could have pursued a more mainstream blockbuster, he instead selected a theme that appeals to children and families,” Unni noted.
Unni also mentioned that he takes “great pride” in launching his movie in the same week as Mohanlal’s Barroz. “I was inspired to pursue action after viewing films like Spadikam. Therefore, if I am influenced by action cinema, these individuals are the ones to hold accountable (laughs),” he added.
Marco box office collection off to a brilliant start
Marco has made a remarkable debut at the box office, with the producers announcing that the film has earned Rs 25 crore globally, while industry analysts report that it has generated nearly Rs 9 crore from the Indian market.
“I hope to see an increase in action films, as this genre resonates well with the younger audience,” Unni remarked. He further expressed, “My goal is to create exceptional films, and when my colleagues are investing significant amounts in a project, I strive for it to be outstanding. I am pleased to have achieved that with Marco.”
